Guides
This is a big, diverse world with thousands of years of history. There are a lot of labels that have passed down in mythology, religion, and folklore. I've spoken to entities that have been called gods. I've spoken to angels. I've spoken to demons. I've spoken to all kinds of beings that would generally be labeled as fairies or fey, planetary intelligences, elementals, and even aliens. There is a LOT out there, and I know I've barely scratched the surface. I'm going to discuss what I've learned about each, but to help make it digestible I've broken them down into three major categories: Guides, Allies, and Aliens. This week, we’ll talk about guides. Please note that the following information is based solely on my own personal experiences thus far. It’s not an all-inclusive definitive list.
Guides
We all have spiritual guides that help us on life's journey. Sometimes they just manifest as really strong intuition, or they speak through others, through synchronicities, or other means of getting our attention. When you start to open yourself up to the greater existence around you and raise your vibration, you start to become more sensitive and receptive to these messages. Eventually, if you continue on the path, you'll develop clairaudience and will be able to hear and speak directly.
From what I've gathered, Guides are intelligences that used to be physical beings, like us, but have evolved and ascended to a higher state of being. Once we've finished our various iterations of physical reality and have ascended, the next step is usually to become a guide ourselves. The goal of constantly evolving doesn't ever stop. The way that Guides continue their own growth is by helping others to grow and evolve themselves. We seem to have a set of guides that stick with us through all our various iterations. We, humans, also appear to be grouped together in "soul groups", like houses in Harry Potter. Our iterations come in and out of each others lives in various roles and differing impact and importance, but we all seem to share the same group of guides. It's why you'll sometimes meet people and just "click", like you've always known them. You have. Your significant other may feel like your "soul mate" because they pretty much are. My wife and I, for example, have been together as a couple in quite a few other iterations. That seems to be true across the board, even for gods, as they seem to have core groups that all tend to work together. I wonder if that’s how the concept of pantheons began in the first place?
Guardian Angels/Angels
Yes, angels are a thing. Yes, they can act as guides, but they seem to have their own thing going separate from just that. That said, my understanding is that everyone has a guardian angel. They stick with you and are your primary guide through every iteration that you'll have. Though we're in the same "soul group", my wife and I have different Guardian Angels. For me, my GA was always the voice I heard from the time I was a kid up until I finally got with the program and started on my path. He was the presence I felt when I felt "the presence of God". He was the one that stopped me from hurting myself on several occasions where I almost gave in to suicidal ideations. His was the spiritual nudge I received when I felt stuck or hopeless in life. When I finally opened myself back up, his was the first voice that I heard; and he was my first teacher as I started on the path to learning magick. This remained true until about two years in, when I'd advanced enough that he was ready to hand me off to my Guide for the next leg of my introductory journey, Odin. (Yes, that Odin.)
Like a spiritual parent, my GA's job was to protect me, lay the groundwork, and help get me to the point where I could start to fend for myself, spiritually speaking. That's not to say that he isn't around anymore. We still speak occasionally, and I know he's always there for me if I need him; but his focus is on those who are still searching for their path, or who have just taken their first steps.
I also met and regularly interacted with the four archangels associated with the LBRP as I practiced- Raphael, Michael, Gabriel, and Uriel. I have a strong connection to Uriel, and he was the one I directly talked to the most. They typically aren’t very chatty. When they do speak, it’s often very short and to the point, to gently nudge you in a particular direction. They’ve also blessed me and charged talismans for me at various times.
Lucifer is the latest guide to work with me. Yes, that Lucifer. No, he isn’t Satan or the devil. I’m not going to get into it right now, but that stuff is literally Christian mythology that isn’t even backed up in the Bible despite how pervasive it is in culture. Neither is the rapture, but I digress…
The point is working with Lucifer doesn’t make you a satanist or evil. I actually really enjoy talking to him. He’s like the cool uncle of my guide group and has a wicked sense of humor, but he’s not afraid to bluntly call you on your bullshit.
The Gods
Yep, the gods are real. All of them. They're either guides or egregores. They're also not limited to a single pantheon, but are often known as multiple different deities across the world, though they're the same "person". I'm not going to go into details as to who is who, because they've asked me not to; so when I talk about my specific Guides, I'll be referring to them as the deity that I first came to know them as.
As I’ve already said, my first guide after magick boot camp was Odin. His focus was on me learning to be independent, to get to know and trust myself, and to realize that I didn’t need any god or angel or spirit to do magick or improve myself. I had everything that I needed within myself and my connection to the Source. Once Odin was satisfied, he handed me off to my next guide, Hecate.
Hecate’s focus was on shadow work and internal exploration. She taught me to deal with the root causes of my clinical depression, anxiety, suicidal thoughts, and generally all the ways that I was mentally and emotionally fucked up.
Brigid’s focus was on internal peace and healing.
I’ve talked with and worked with others at various points, but these are the main ones so far.
Ancestors
Ancestors can often act as guides. I've honestly never knowingly interacted with any of my ancestors, so I can't speak personally to this or how it actually works. My assumption is it's the spirit of blood ancestors that have since ascended and are now guides themselves, and have chosen to help those from their former bloodline.
